Digestive Enzyme Supplement

DESCRIPTION

VISTAZYME Syrup is a combination of digestive enzymes (Diastase and Pepsin) that provides relief from digestive disturbances and enhances nutrient absorption. It is particularly useful for patients with indigestion, dyspepsia, and enzyme deficiencies. The synergistic action of Diastase in breaking down complex carbohydrates and Pepsin in aiding protein digestion makes it an effective choice for improving overall digestive health. This syrup is suitable for patients who need digestive support, including those recovering from gastrointestinal procedures or suffering from mild digestive discomfort.

Indications:

VISTAZYME Syrup is indicated for improving digestion, addressing digestive discomfort, and supporting nutrient absorption. It is used in the following conditions:

  • Indigestion: Helpful for patients with slow digestion, gas, or bloating.
  • Loss of Appetite: Can improve appetite by enhancing digestive function.
  • Dyspepsia: Beneficial for patients suffering from dyspepsia, including heartburn or gastritis.
  • Post-Surgical Support: Can assist patients recovering from surgeries, especially those that affect the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Enzyme Deficiencies: Used in cases where there is an insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes.

Mechanism of Action:

  1. Diastase (1:2000) I.P.:
Diastase is a digestive enzyme derived from fungal sources (often Aspergillus oryzae). It helps to break down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars, facilitating better digestion and absorption of nutrients. It is particularly useful in conditions where starch digestion is impaired.
  2. Pepsin (1:3000) I.P.:
Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme that helps break down proteins into smaller peptides, aiding in protein digestion in the stomach. It is particularly effective in acidic environments and enhances the breakdown of food, particularly protein-based foods, improving overall gastric digestion.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and Children over 12 years:
Take 5 mL (1 teaspoon) of VISTAZYME Syrup 2-3 times daily, preferably before meals or as directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Children (6-12 years):
Take 5 mL (1 teaspoon) of VISTAZYME Syrup once or twice a day, or as recommended by the doctor.
  • Children under 6 years:
The use of VISTAZYME Syrup in children under 6 years of age should be under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

Note: Shake the bottle well before use.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the syrup, including fungal diastase or pepsin.
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease: Caution is advised in individuals with active peptic ulcers or gastric bleeding, as pepsin could exacerbate such conditions.
  • Renal Impairment: Caution is required in patients with kidney disorders due to the metabolic processing of enzymes.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Gastrointestinal Diseases: In patients with underlying gastrointestinal diseases (like gastritis or peptic ulcers), VISTAZYME Syrup should be used with caution, as pepsin may irritate the stomach lining.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation:
    • Pregnancy: VISTAZYME Syrup is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy, but it is recommended to consult a doctor before use.
    • Lactation: There are no known contraindications to breastfeeding while using this product, but consultation with a healthcare provider is advisable.
  • Diabetic Patients: While there are no direct contraindications for diabetic patients, it is advisable to monitor blood sugar levels, especially when combined with other medications.
  • Not for Long-Term Use: Extended or unsupervised use of digestive enzyme supplements is not recommended unless directed by a healthcare provider.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:
    • Mild gastrointestinal discomfort, including nausea, bloating, or indigestion.
    • Allergic reactions (rare) such as skin rash or itching.
  • Rare/Serious Side Effects:
    • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), including swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and difficulty breathing. If this occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek urgent medical attention.
  • Gastric Irritation: In rare cases, gastric irritation may occur, especially in patients with pre-existing gastric conditions such as gastritis or peptic ulcer.

Drug Interactions:

  • Antacids and Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs): Use of antacids or PPIs along with VISTAZYME Syrup may reduce the effectiveness of pepsin because it requires an acidic environment to function optimally. It is advised to space out the administration of these medications.
  • Antibiotics and Antifungals: As Diastase is derived from fungal sources, caution should be exercised when used alongside antifungal treatments or antibiotics that target the gut flora.
  • Enzyme Inhibitors: Caution should be observed when combining VISTAZYME Syrup with drugs that inhibit digestive enzymes or gastric secretions.

Storage:

  • Store at room temperature (15°C to 25°C), away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
